What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are thin shells — typically made from porcelain or composite resin — that are bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. They can be used to address concerns such as discolouration, chipping, irregular shape, or minor spacing issues. Where a more conservative option is appropriate, we may also discuss composite bonding.
Veneers are a purely cosmetic treatment. They do not strengthen a tooth or address underlying dental health problems. Before recommending veneers, our team will carry out a thorough assessment of your oral health to ensure you are a suitable candidate and that any existing issues are treated first.
All veneer treatment at Castle Bromwich Dental Care is carried out by GDC-registered dental professionals. We follow a thorough consultation and consent process, and we will never proceed with irreversible treatment until you have had adequate time to consider your decision.

Types of veneers we offer
There are two main types of veneer material — porcelain and composite resin. Each has distinct characteristics and your dentist will explain which may be more appropriate for you.
Porcelain veneers
Custom-made in a dental laboratory and bonded permanently to the prepared tooth surface. Porcelain has a translucency that closely resembles natural enamel and is generally more resistant to staining than composite resin. Requires removal of a thin layer of enamel — this is permanent and irreversible.
Composite veneers
Applied directly to the tooth in a single visit using the same tooth-coloured resin used in composite bonding. Generally less durable than porcelain and more susceptible to staining over time, but more conservative and easier to repair.

Permanent tooth discolouration
Teeth that are deeply stained or discoloured — particularly where whitening has not achieved a satisfactory result.
Chipped or worn teeth
Restoring the appearance of teeth that are chipped, fractured at the edge, or worn down — provided the underlying tooth structure is sound.
Irregular tooth shape or size
Teeth that are unusually small, pointed, or irregular in shape may be improved cosmetically with veneers.
Minor gaps between teeth
Small spaces between front teeth can sometimes be addressed with veneers, depending on the size of the gap.
Mildly misaligned appearance
Where teeth appear slightly uneven but orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign is not desired, veneers may offer an aesthetic improvement.
Smile symmetry concerns
Patients who feel their smile looks uneven may find that veneers help create a more balanced overall appearance.
Veneers may not be suitable where there is active decay, untreated gum disease, insufficient enamel, severe bruxism, or where the tooth would be better restored with a crown.

What to expect at Castle Bromwich Dental Care
Consultation & oral health assessment
A comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, and bite. Any existing dental health concerns — such as decay or gum disease — must be identified and treated first, often supported by hygiene appointments.
Treatment planning & informed consent
Your dentist will explain your options in full — including the type of veneer, preparation involved, expected appearance, risks, limitations, longevity, and replacement considerations. Written information is provided.
Tooth preparation (porcelain veneers)
A small, precise amount of enamel is removed under local anaesthetic. An impression or digital scan is then taken and sent to a dental laboratory. Temporary veneers may be placed while permanent ones are made.
Try-in & assessment (porcelain)
Your porcelain veneers are placed temporarily so you and your dentist can assess fit, colour, and appearance before they are permanently bonded.
Bonding & fitting
Once you are happy with appearance and fit, the veneers are permanently bonded using dental adhesive and a curing light. Your bite is checked and adjusted.
Aftercare & review
Detailed care guidance is provided and a follow-up appointment is arranged. Ongoing routine check-ups and hygiene visits are essential to long-term success.
