What are dentures?
Dentures are removable appliances designed to replace missing teeth and the surrounding gum tissue. They are one of the longest-established and most widely used solutions for tooth loss, and remain an effective, accessible option for many patients.
Modern dentures are custom-made to fit the unique contours of your mouth, fabricated by GDC-registered dental technicians. The aim is to restore as much of your natural appearance and function as possible — though dentures will feel and function differently to natural teeth, particularly in the initial adjustment period.
Honest expectations
Dentures can significantly improve appearance, restore the ability to eat a wider range of foods, and support speech and confidence. However, they require a period of adjustment and will not function identically to natural teeth.
Types of denture
Which type of denture is right for you?
There are several types of denture, each suited to different clinical circumstances. Your dentist will assess your mouth, remaining teeth, gum and bone health, and your individual needs.
Complete dentures
Replace all of the teeth in an arch. Held in place by suction to the gum and palate (upper) or resting on the lower gum ridge. Typically made from acrylic resin.
Partial dentures
Used when some natural teeth remain — filling gaps and supported by remaining teeth using clasps or precision attachments.
Cobalt chrome dentures
A precision-cast metal framework supports the acrylic base and teeth — generally more durable, thinner and more hygienic.
Immediate dentures
Made in advance and placed directly after teeth are extracted, so you are never without teeth. Will require relining or replacement as the gum heals.
Implant-retained dentures
A denture anchored by dental implants for significantly improved stability compared to a conventional removable denture.
Flexible dentures
Made from a flexible nylon resin with tooth-coloured clasps that blend with the gum — a less visible alternative for some partial cases.

Try-in appointment
A trial denture with teeth set in wax is tried in your mouth so you and your dentist can assess appearance, fit, bite, and tooth position before finalising.
Fitting your finished denture
Your finished denture is fitted, adjusted as needed for comfort, and detailed care guidance provided.
Review and adjustments
Follow-up appointments are arranged to address sore spots and ensure the denture is comfortable and functional.
